Stuck at Home, Stuck in Life
In 2022, Ruth was just another Nigerian undergraduate stuck at home because of a school strike. Everything felt uncertain. With no classes to attend and no work experience to rely on, she felt depressed and unmotivated.
But instead of waiting for things to change, she made a decision—she joined Heels and Tech.
At the time, she had no idea this decision would completely transform her career.
Starting Tech with No Experience
Ruth had never worked in tech before. She wasn’t even sure if she belonged in the industry. But she took a leap of faith and enrolled in our Business Analysis course.
Like many beginners, she had doubts. Would she understand the concepts? Would she ever land a real job? But we don’t just teach theory at Heels and Tech—we focus on practical skills, hands-on projects, and real-world applications.
As she went through the training, her confidence grew. She learned about stakeholder communication, business case documentation, diagrams, conflict management, and more. She didn’t just memorize information—she understood how to use it.
And that changed everything.
Applying for a Job with No Degree or Experience
Then came the big moment.
Ruth came across a UX Designer and Strategist job opening. But there was one problem—she had never worked in UX before. She was still an undergraduate, with no degree and no prior work experience.
But instead of letting that stop her, she applied anyway.
The skills she learned from Heels and Tech—like problem-solving, research, and business documentation—helped her stand out. She went for the interview and answered confidently, using everything she had learned.
And then? She got the job.
From a Jobless Undergraduate to a UX Designer
This wasn’t just any role. UX Design is a competitive field, and most companies prefer candidates with years of experience. However, Ruth landed the role as an undergraduate with zero prior experience.
One course. One application. One bold step.
And she went from feeling stuck at home to working for one of Africa’s biggest travel organizations.
Fast Forward to 2024: Now an Author
Ruth didn’t stop there.
After gaining experience and growing in her career, she took her journey a step further. In 2024, she wrote and published her first book—a story about how she transitioned into tech.
In her words:
“Thanks to your program, I transitioned from a jobless undergraduate to being a business analyst working in one of Africa’s biggest travel organizations and to becoming a Cybersecurity GRC Analyst—a path I once thought was beyond my reach.”
From feeling lost during a school strike to getting a high-paying UX Designer role to writing a book to inspire others—this is the power of taking action.
Why Her Story Matters
Many undergraduates and fresh graduates believe they need a degree and years of experience before they can get a tech job.
Ruth’s story proves that’s not true.
She had:
✅ No degree
✅ No prior work experience
✅ No tech background
But she still got hired.
How?
✔ She learned the right skills
✔ She applied without fear
✔ She used what she learned to ace her interview
And now, she’s thriving.
